Earlier on this year, we started work on an immense project for our members. This feature, dubbed "SimAir" will let registered members manage their own "Virtual Airline", everything from Gates, to Planes, to Finances.

"But Wait fox! I am already registered with another site that features that!"

Well, does their system offer:
  • Dynamic Weather, which can directly affect your daily profits?
  • A Financial system, which lets you deposit money into a bank, and earn interest?
  • A User Input System, which lets you add your local airport(s) into the database?
Just to name a few unique features. Posted Image

The system is tied in with your forum account, and you can buy items to enhance your account (Such as post increase) with your "Virtual Dollars" (Formally "FSBUCKS", for you veterans of the site).

We are also proud to announce that we're now accepting public submissions for airports, you may use this link to submit your airport:

Well, there's a catch... It takes a lot of time and money to offer this feature to everyone for free. (Believe it or not Posted Image ) I can't do all of the scripting myself, and sometimes we need to hire professional programmers to do advanced scripting jobs (Such as a flash route map).

Your donations will directly affect the quality of the game, and the website. To gain access to this special forum (Aswell as remove Ads on the forums!) please click here:

A flash tutorial, and a full feature list is also offered here:

We apreciate everybody's continued support.

I can't say for sure, but hopefully there will be a beta in a few weeks to a month. You can track progress in the Special Group forum:

Over 70 airports, nice job folks! Keep them coming.

Also, I might add that the game won't be compatable with IE6, only Firefox or IE7. I don't think I willl block access to the game though like the airport submit system. (Meaning, IE6 users will be able to play the game, but it won't 'look' as good as it does in FF/IE7) The big reason is that IE6 doesn't support Transparent PNG.

It looks like there are some errors in your script.

int'l gave me a SQL error cuz of the ' ... Have you used the addslashes() function?

Also, I accedently went back than foward again and am pretty sure it got entered in the db again with out the php detecting the repeat? If I am right about this one you probably should make a seperate script that scans for repeats via the ICAO identifier and delete them and run it every so often.

Lastly,

I would love to work with you on this project! If your in, contact me:

Looking foward to it!

No, I haven't. You're right, unless the airport is i nthe final DB it can be submitted many times. Although it is pretty easy to spot duplicates (If you sort by Airport Code, they appear one after another). I was going to have it cross check the Final database and the "awaiting approval" database for codes. Instead I am just going to add a "check if this airport exists" link by the ICAO input. That way people won't have to spend time filling out the entire form, and then learn their airport is already entered.

Yes, you should seruously consider using addslashes()...

For security and 'work-ability'...

For example:

$icao = addslashes($_POST['icao']);

What it does is add slashes before all "illegal" characters like " ' etc.. so it doesn't inturrupt with the php or SQL parsing. The security part of it is to help prevent SQL inject attacks...

Although in this database there is really nothing special that a hacker would want to find... a hacker could use SQL's DELETE function and "DELETE * FROM `table`"

Anyways...
I recomend you use that!

When you want to submit an airport and you're not sure if it's already submitted or not, simply hit "Check If This Already Exists." Type in your ICAO for that airport and it should tell you if the airport is submitted or not. :)

Is the weather on a XML feed that fetches the weather from different areas? Or is it fake, globally set?

The weather itself is selected by random from a pool of weather. It is, however based on the season (ie, it won't snow during summer, etc).

Never thought of adding real time XML feeds from weather.com or something, sounds cool, but it would be extremely hard to impliment. (Maybe an upgrade, but to be 100% honest with you it is unlikely).

And, for the beta at least, it will be "global weather". I do plan to add regions which have different weather either in the Final or an upgrade. Most likely the world will be divided into around 50 regions or so, and each region will have different weather. At this point, I am thinking the eaisest way to do that would be by using geolocation from the Lat/Long of the airport, and defining boundries.

Lets say all airports who's Lat/Long lies in region 24 willl have rain, etc.
